River Oaks is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Houston. It is also one of the most wealthiest communities in Texas and the United States, with real estate values ranging from $1 million to over $20 million. It is located in the center of Houston, within the 610 Loop and between Downtown and Uptown. River Oaks was established in the 1920s by the brothers Williams and Michael Hogg and they started with a purchase of 200 acres of land with their company, the River Oaks Corporation. Currently the community spans 1,100 acres of land. River Oaks is home to the River Oaks Country Club. River Oaks has multiple neighbor communities that are also very desirable places to live. Avalon, Glendowest, Court, Royden Oaks, Oak Estates, Afton Oaks and Highland Village are all residential inside the Loop. Many of homes existing have been renovated or replaced, but they were strictly controlled to keep the integrity of the neighborhood. The homes in these neighborhoods have been built by famous architects, such as John Staub, Birdsall P. Briscoe, Hira Salisbury and Howard Barnstone. The River Oaks area is close the River Oaks Park, with new playground equipment, tennis courts, basketball courts. It’s also close to Memorial Park, which offers a recreational area for golfing, biking, volleybal, jogging, swimming and tennis. The Highland Village Shopping Center, the Galleria and the River Oaks Shopping Center are just minutes away.
